Federica Brignone said Monday it
would be "impossible" for her to get back on her skis "before
four to five months" after surgery on a compound fracture of her
left leg.
"Me on skis? Before 4/5 months it's out of the question, it's
impossible," said the 34-year-old from Val d'Aosta, .Italy's
most successful woman skier, who recently lifted her second
overall World Cup title, and who also ripped her ACL in her
crash at the Italian championships on April 3.
"I don't know the recovery time, the doctors don't know. In 45
days we'll have a control CT scan and then we'll see what to do.
"First we have to think about the bone part, then the rest. Will
I also operate on the ligament? We have to wait for the CT scan
because even if we do we certainly can't attach it to a broken
tibia".
Brignone said she was still hoping to be fit for next February's
Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, where she would be aiming to bag
her first Olympic gold.
"I'm super positive," she said.
Brignone is the all-time most successful Italian woman skier in
the World Cup and her 37 wins put her behind only the great
Alberto Tomba, on 50, for both sexes.
Brigone also has two Olympic silvers and a bronze as well as two
world championship golds and three silvers.
As well as her recent second overall World Cup crown, Brignone
also got the downhill and giant slalom crystal globes.
