Centre-right Piedmonth Governor
Alberto Cirio said Thursday that Liberation Day on April 25 is
still not celebrated enough an that this year "we must sing"
despite government calls for "sobriety" amid mourning for late
Pope Francis.
"I believe that the April 25 holiday should be a celebration.
And in my opinion we still don't celebrate it enough", said
Cirio during the presentation of a book dedicated to the key
places of the Piedmontese WWII Resistance.
"Beyond the specific discussion on the Pope's funeral and on
sobriety - he explained in response to a question from the
director of the newspaper 'La Stampa' Andrea Malaguti, during a
meeting that took place at the Circolo dei lettori - I hope that
April 25 becomes a holiday where we really celebrate, because
there is something to celebrate. A holiday where we dance, we
sing in the streets, we do all those things that were forbidden
by a regime".
