Italian supercoach Carlo Ancelotti is
Brazil's new boss, the federation said Monday.
It said the winningest team in the world - with five World Cup
victories - would be coached by the most successful coach in
history.
Ancelotti is set to sign for Brazil on May 26, two days after he
leaves Real Madrid, so the former Parma, Juventus, Milan,
Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich,
Napoli and Everton boss can take charge of the Selecao for World
Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay on June 3 and 8,
ESPN Brazil reported recently.
Reggiolo-born Ancelotti, 65, a former Italy, Roma and Milan
midfielder, has won the UEFA Champions League five times, a
record for a manager, and is the only manager to take part in
six Champions
League finals.
Ancelotti is also the only manager to win league titles in all
of Europe's top five leagues.
He has been closely linked to the Brazil job since Real exited
the Champions League to Arsenal at the quarter-final stage.
The statement from the Brazilian soccer federation said:
"The strongest national team in the history of football will now
be led by the most successful coach in the world.
"Carlo Ancelotti, synonymous with historic feats, was announced
this Monday by the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, as
the new coach of the Brazilian national team.
"He will lead Brazil to the 2026 World Cup and will coach the
team in the next two qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay,
next month.
"Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to lead Brazil is more than a
strategic move. It is a statement to the world - adds the CBF
number 1 - that we are determined to regain the top spot on the
podium.
"He is the greatest coach in history and now he leads the
strongest national team on the planet.
"Together, we will write new glorious chapters for Brazilian
football".
Brazil's form has been patchy in recent years.
