Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
she would propose to Donald Trump a zero for zero approach to
tariffs when she meets the US president in Washington on April
17.
"The challenge to explore is instead the one that Italy was
among the first nations to promote, and that President von der
Leyen also reiterated yesterday, that is, the possibility of
eliminating reciprocal duties on existing industrial products
with the "zero for zero" formula," Meloni said at tariffs talks
with business categories in Rome.
"In this, it seems to me that there is availability on the part
of the President of the Commission and on the part of the
Commissioner for Trade who is negotiating.
"This is the negotiation that must see us all engaged and at all
levels, that sees us engaged and that involves me who will be in
Washington on April 17 and obviously I also intend to address
this issue with the President of the United States".
