Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that "the recent rise of racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia in Europe is worrying and that more sensitivity is expected from the Council of Europe in countering them". This was stated by the Presidency of the Turkish Republic, referring to a meeting in Ankara between Erdogan and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.
"During the meeting, President Erdogan said that Turkey attaches importance to constructive dialogue and interaction with the Council of Europe and continues to cooperate with the Council and other international mechanisms for the protection of human rights," the statement added.
