The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had a meeting in Ankara with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who in the Turkish capital also had talks with the Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan. This was reported by the Presidency of the Republic of Ankara.
"Ataturk's reforms paved the way for Turkey's accession to the Council of Europe", which took place on 13 April 1950, Berset said in a message on X, after laying a wreath on behalf of the Council of Europe at the Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
