Premier Giorgia Meloni and
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will speak on
the telephone on Friday after Meloni's positive talks with US
President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, a EU
spokesperson said.
During the talks Trump heaped praise on Meloni, who is seeking
to act as a bridge between the US and the EU, and both leaders
expressed optimism a deal can be reached over Washington's
tariffs.
Meloni is also meeting United States Vice President JD Vance in
Rome on Friday.
The Italian premier and von der Leyen spoke to each other
several times in the run-up to Thursday's encounter at the White
House.
