Pope Francis on Thursday visited
Regina Coeli prison in Rome for a Holy Thursday meet and greet
with around 70 prisoners, to whom he gave a copy of the Gospel.
The pontiff, who is recovering after 38 days in hospital
fighting life-threatening pneumonia, had already been in the
Roman penitentiary on Holy Thursday 2018.
On that occasion he had celebrated the Mass 'in Coena Domini'
(The Lord's Supper) with the traditional rite of washing feet to
commemorate what Jesus did to his disciples at the Last Supper.
Francis is still weak and is trying to recover his full voice
after the bout of pneumonia which twice had doctors fearing for
his life.
He may take some part in Easter celebrations although there have
been no official announcements about this.
