A senior US official said in a call
on Thursday's White House talks between Premier Giorgia Meloni
and President Donald Trump that the US administration hoped that
dialogue with the European Union would advance after the
meeting.
"We do not rank countries based on the 'probability' of an
agreement." said the official.
"What matters is that President Trump takes all this very
seriously, with a common-sense approach based on reciprocity",
he said, responding to a question on where the EU is positioned
on the scale of priorities for new trade agreements.
"We hope that Prime Minister Meloni and President Trump can
advance the discussion, to arrive at a dialogue that reflects
what the president has long supported", he added.
