Pope Francis on Friday decided to go
to Rome's Gemelli hospital for treatment and tests after
suffering bronchitis and breathing problems, the Vatican said.
"This morning, after his audiences, Pope Francis will be
admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for necessary
diagnostic tests and to continue hospital treatment for his
ongoing bronchitis," the Vatican press office said.
The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff, who has had aides read out
several of his recent addresses because he said he did not feel
well enough to deliver them himself, subsequently went to the
hospital, sources said.
Francis could remain in the hospital for up to five days,
sources close to the pontiff's entourage who are with him at the
hospital said.
