Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Thursday said the centre-right Forza Italia
(FI) party he leads is pro-Europe and Atlanticist, as well as
loyal to the executive.
"We are loyal to the government but we will not give up on
anything concerning our values.
"Nothing is negotiable on Europe.
"Fi is pro-Europe and Atlanticist", Tajani said on the sidelines
of a European People's Party (EPP) summit, replying to reporters
after Premier Giorgia Meloni's controversial statement that the
1941 Manifesto of Ventotene does not represent the Europe she
envisions.
Tajani said he would not be a member of an anti-European
government, stressing that "Meloni's positions are pro-Europe".
He also noted that FI is "in favour of a common EU army", when
asked about the League's position against such a possibility.
