The rightwing League party on Friday
said its leader Matteo Salvini, the deputy premier and transport
minister, had had a fifteen-minute phone call with the Vice
President of the United States, J.D. Vance.
"At the center of the extremely cordial and concrete
conversation were the opportunities for cooperation between the
two countries: Salvini anticipated the desire for a mission to
the US with businesses and investors. Objective: to strengthen
the partnership between Rome and Washington", said the
nationalist party.
"Salvini - it continued - also reiterated the common commitment
to combat illegal immigration and the importance of Made in
Italy in the world.
Salvini also recognized "American excellence in the field of
satellite connection".
The Italian government is reportedly interested in Elon Musk's
Starlink system for high-speed internet communications, though
no announcement has been made to that effect.
