The European Union should speed its
enlargement process to the Balkans including Ukraine and
Moldova, President Sergio Mattarella told his Estonian
counterpart Alar Karis at the presidential Quirinale Palace in
Rome Wednesday.
There is a need to recover collaborative transatlantic
relations, Mattarella also said.
The war in Ukraine, the situation of the European Union, the
enlargement of the EU and the problem of tariffs were at the
center of his meeting with Karis. There was also full agreement
on the need to accelerate the process of "EU enlargement to the
Balkans, also considering Ukraine and Moldova".
