Federica Brignone has multiple leg
fractures and will be out of action for several months after a
bad fall in the Italian skiing championships Thursday, tests
revealed.
The 34-year-old from Val d'Aosta, who recently bagged her second
World Cup overall title as well as the downhill, SuperG and
slalom crystal globes, suffered "a multi-fragmentary fracture of
the tibial plateau and the head of the fibula" in her left leg,
the Italian Skiing Federation (FISI) said.
This is the result of the tests the Italian champion underwent
at the hospital in Trento, where she was transported by
helicopter.
The prognosis is yet to be defined, but sources said the serious
injury will mean she will be out for several months.
Brignone is the most successful Italian woman skier and her 37
world cup wins put her behind only the great Alberto Tomba, on
50, for both sexes.
She has 85 career World Cup podium finishes.
Brigone also has two Olympic silvers and a bronze as well as two
world golds and three silvers.
