The Vatican said around 200,000
people were attending Pope Francis's funeral according to the
information it had from the "competent authorities" shortly
after the service started on Saturday.
Rome police, meanwhile, said early on Saturday that thousands of
faithful had already taken up positions along the six-kilometre
route of the late pontiff's funeral procession from St Peter's
to Rome's Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he will be laid to
rest.
