The Consul General of Italy in Erbil, Michele Camerota, inaugurated in Sulaymaniyah, the second city of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, a corner dedicated to Italian Design at the premises of the VIM foundation, an innovative reality that involves young local artists and promotes creative activities, from painting to photography, from cinema to the production and translation of literary works. The inauguration was also attended by the president of the VIM Foundation, Lava Hikmat.
The initiative was supported by the General Directorate for the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which accepted the request to send some volumes, partly provided by Italian Design Day partners such as ADI (Association for Industrial Design) and Compasso d'Oro, with the aim of disseminating Italian excellence in the sector. On the occasion, emphasis was also given to the activities carried out by Italian archaeological missions throughout the Kurdish region, which started about two decades ago precisely from Sulaymaniyah and for which Italy today holds the record in the whole of Iraq.
During the inauguration, the Consul expressed his satisfaction for the growing demand for Made in Italy products in the region and underlined the importance of the design sector as a peculiar testimony of Italian knowledge and creativity, which is becoming more and more economically relevant for our exports in the world.
