The Italian Ambassador in Vienna, Giovanni Pugliese, attended the opening at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna of the exhibition 'Arcimboldo - Bassano - Bruegel. Die Zeiten der Natur' (The Times of Nature).
The exhibition, which is open to the public until 29 June and organised in cooperation with the Italian Embassy, includes not only works by Giuseppe Arcimboldo and Jacopo and Leandro Bassano, but also other 16th century Italian artists and the Flemish painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder. In addition, there are numerous loans from Italian institutions, such as the Accademia Carrara and the Angelo Mai Library in Bergamo, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Castello Sforzesco and the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, the Galleria Estense in Modena and the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice.
In his inauguration speech, Ambassador Pugliese recalled that "the relationship between man and nature is a theme that has taken on particular importance today also because of the climate crisis we are currently experiencing. Today we are clearly aware that we are in a phase of profound change, and with the help of scientists, artists and scholars we are reflecting on our relationship with the environment that surrounds us, also in order to rethink it'.
The Ambassador also recalled the excellent and intense cooperation relationship of the Italian Embassy in Vienna with the Kunsthistorisches Museum over the years, especially in relation to the exhibitions dedicated by the prestigious museum institution to the great Italian artists, some of whose most important works it preserves (most recently the exhibitions on Raphael, Titian and Laurana).
The opening of the exhibition was followed by a reception hosted by the Pugliese Ambassador in the Metternich Palace.
