Italian Ambassador to Brazil Alessandro Cortese inaugurated 'Defeito de Identidade', the first exhibition in Brasilia by renowned Italian artist Lucio Salvatore, at the Karla Osorio Gallery.
The exhibition curated by Marc Pottier brings together around 40 paintings created in the last two years, addressing themes of identity, displacement, nature and migration.
Lucio Salvatore, a Cassino-born artist who has lived between Brazil and Italy for more than 20 years, constructs his works, often inspired by Brazilian nature, as constellations of visual fragments - portraits of plants, historical and contemporary images, references to works of art - creating dense and multifaceted compositions.
His paintings function as artistic and political statements, reflecting on concepts of belonging and exclusion.
Brasilia, a city where identity and power are intertwined, was strategically chosen to host this exhibition. Cortese stressed the importance of the event in the panorama of cultural relations between the two countries. "Italy and Brazil share a deep and historical cultural bond. Many of Brazil's greatest artists have Italian origins and, on the other hand, contemporary Italian artists, such as Lucio Salvatore, find Brazil an open territory for art and experimentation. It is essential to support emerging talents who have much to express and who seek an international dialogue. I am sure that the public in Brasilia will welcome this exhibition with great enthusiasm'.
The exhibition will be open until 23 April 2025 at Pavilion II of the Karla Osorio Gallery, Monday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm and on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 2.30 pm, subject to booking by phone, email, Instagram or WhatsApp from the Gallery.
