From Sicily to Paris: a presentation ceremony for the Netflix series 'Il Gattopardo' was held in the Sicilian theatre of the Hôtel de La Rochefoucauld-Doudeauville, the historic seat of the Italian Embassy in France. The gala evening, introduced by the greetings of the Italian Ambassador to France Emanuela D'Alessandro, was attended by, among others, Tinny Andreatta, Vice President for Italian content at Netflix, director Tom Shankland, producers Fabrizio Donvito and Daniel Campos Pavoncelli, and French-Italian actress Deva Cassel, who plays the role of Angelica in the series. More than 60 years after its publication, the literary masterpiece by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa - beloved by its transalpine cousins also thanks to Luchino Visconti's film of the same name - set in Sicily during the uprisings of 1860, continues to shine. D'Alessandro emphasised how 'The Leopard, a novel emblematic of this land of literature and thought that is Sicily, offers us a reflection on change and continuity. The idea that 'everything must change so that nothing changes' has often been interpreted in a pessimistic manner; but today it can be seen in a different light. Sicily has not only preserved its identity, but turned it into an asset. Far from remaining anchored to its past, it has managed to combine tradition and modernity." "This is also why," continued the ambassador in Paris, "I wish to express my appreciation for this initiative by Netflix, for investing in this ambitious project that highlights Sicily's cultural richness in the eyes of an international audience." Finally, D'Alessandro welcomed the presence of Deva Cassel: "I imagine that it was not at all easy to have to deal with such an important legacy as that of Claudia Cardinale, whose 'Angelica' (played alongside Alain Delon in the role of Tancredi in Luchino Visconti's film) is an icon of Italian cinema. At the same time, Deva Cassel has all the talent and charisma to give her interpretation a personal and new touch to the character. A touch that is also exceptionally and very symbolically all Franco-Italian'. In her speech, Netflix's Vice President for Italian content, Tinny Andreatta, noted how 'Il Gattopardo represents Netflix's creative and production ambitions in Italy and reflects our commitment to authentically representing the diverse nuances and beauty of the country'.
