The eighth edition of the Day of Italian Research in the World (Grim) was celebrated on Friday 28 March at the Italian Embassy in Brasilia with the holding of the Italian-Brazilian Seminar on Artificial Intelligence Policies, organised in collaboration with the Brazilian Council of State Secretaries for Science, Technology and Innovation, Consecti.
The event was attended by the Secretaries for Science, Technology and Innovation from Brazil's 27 states and the Federal District, as well as ministerial representatives, experts and representatives of Italian and Brazilian innovative companies.
The seminar was opened by the Ambassador of Italy to Brazil, Alessandro Cortese, together with the President of Consecti, Sílvio Bulhões, the Secretary for Science and Technology for Digital Transformation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Henrique Miguel, and the Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Federal District, Leonardo Reisman.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Alessandro Cortese celebrated Italian Research Day by paying tribute to great Italian women scientists, whose biographies were featured in a special exhibition in the Sala Nervi.
The Ambassador expressed great satisfaction at hosting the annual meeting of Consecti, emphasising the Council's essential role in Brazil's technological progress. He also took the opportunity to highlight the historical and increasingly strong ties between Italy and Brazil, also in the field of innovation, recalling that Italy is a reference point in the development of supercomputers dedicated to Artificial Intelligence - two of the ten most powerful in the world are in fact located on Italian soil.
In a video message, Brazil's Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, reiterated the strategic value of the Consecti meeting for the formulation of scientific public policies, which are indispensable for building a more inclusive and developed country. "The event promoted by Consecti and the Italian Embassy, with the participation of the country's Secretaries of Science and Technology, offers us several contributions on the topic of artificial intelligence," said MCTI Secretary Henrique Miguel. "The topic is a priority for the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and other government bodies (of Brazil) and, I can say, for many other countries as well. It therefore opens up a wide prospect of collaboration not only with Italy but also with other EU countries and, of course, with all Brazilian states. It is, at the same time, a great opportunity for us and the contributions that have emerged will be implemented in the actions of the Brazilian plan on AI. I thank the organisers for this opportunity and I am available to interact with both Italy and all the states represented here,' added MCTI Secretary Miguel.
