Delving into the 'challenges of the current international economic and financial landscape', with the president of the Spanish Banking Association (Aeb), Alejandra Kindelán, as the chief guest: this was the main objective of an event organised by Italian institutions and held yesterday in Madrid. On the occasion, 'more than thirty companies from the insurance, banking and financial sector' were represented, a press release explained.
The initiative, specifically organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Spain (Ccis), took place at the Italian embassy in Madrid. Opening the event, the Italian ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, recalled 'the experience and vision of President Kindelán' (already the first woman to receive the Tiepolo Prize in 2023), inviting the audience to reflect 'on what, in a new and uncertain international framework, may be the most appropriate paths to follow in order to further strengthen the very solid economic relations between Italy and Spain'.
For her part, the president of the EIB dwelt on various aspects of the current international scenario, such as 'the opportunity that presents itself for the EU to place itself at the centre of international financial flows, developing its potential through instruments such as the single market'. Mr Kindelán also emphasised "the need to integrate the Union's savings and investment market more closely and in a timely manner", for example with "a single deposit guarantee fund", and by speeding up "measures in favour of the adoption of the digital euro and equivalent instruments" (including the 'Bizum' number-linked payment technology which, from Spain, will soon also be available in Italy and Portugal).
The event closed with a question session and the hope that 'more education in finance will help to alleviate the sense of disorientation that part of the public feels in the face of the current international economic scenario'.
