On the occasion of the 8th edition of the Day of Italian Research in the World, the Italian Embassy in Paris organised a scientific conference dedicated to joint Italian-French research projects on polar and marine issues, in view of the Third United Nations World Conference on Oceans UNOC3, scheduled to take place in Nice from 9 to 13 June.
Now in its eighth edition, the Giornata della Ricerca Italiana nel mondo (Italian Research Day in the World) is one of the most significant moments in Italy's integrated promotion strategy around the world and is aimed at enhancing the work of Italian researchers abroad and strengthening the link between the Italian research system and the international scientific community.
Ambassador D'Alessandro emphasised that 'Italy and France are two of the most important players in the study of the conservation of the marine environment as well as polar environments. Emphasis was also placed on the Quirinal Treaty, which with its entry into force has strengthened bilateral commitment also in the scientific sector, and on the Concordia Base, one of the most concrete and successful examples of bilateral scientific cooperation between Italy and France. "The Concordia Base is not only a research centre of excellence, but also a symbol of effective and far-sighted international cooperation, capable of tackling scientific and technological challenges of great global relevance," recalled the Ambassador.
The Ambassador for the Poles and Maritime Affairs and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic for the UN Conference on Oceans in Nice, Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, emphasised in his speech that 'The ocean is our main natural environment: our oxygen reservoir and the main storage site for carbon. Our future, our temperature, the oxygen we breathe: it is all in the ocean. The Nice conference will be the biggest conference on the oceans ever organised, which is why France, together with Costa Rica, considers it essential that the conference brings together all public and private actors and leads to concrete results. In our ambition, the Nice conference will be fundamental for ocean governance'.
