In Accra, the Italian Embassy celebrated Italian Design Day for the first time in Ghana, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture at Central University.
Under the title "Inequalities. Design for a Better Life', Italian Design Day 2025 emphasised the importance of high quality design in curbing and mitigating inequalities and their impact on daily life. There were two guests on the day, Italian architect Enrico Morteo, design historian and critic, and Ghanaian architect Augustine Owusu Ansah, of S. Tetteh and Associates, who lectured before an audience of architecture students, designers, entrepreneurs and professors.
"Italian design can now boast a history that has lasted at least 80 years. An extraordinary race, a wild ride towards the future, beauty, creativity. The stories of designers full of ideas and inventions, the stories of many courageous and visionary entrepreneurs, the stories of journalists and photographers who have built up the colourful and seductive images of Italian design,' said Italian architect Morteo.
Architect Augustine Owusu Ansah emphasised how courageous technical knowledge, combined with creativity, makes it possible to meet the challenges of improving living conditions and the environmental sustainability of buildings and urban structures. In her opening speech, Italian Ambassador Laura Ranalli called for fruitful cooperation between Italian and Ghanaian institutions.
