The third and final stage of the exhibition 'Journey of Knowledge: Marco Polo's Million and its Legacy between East and West', already on display in China in Beijing and Chengdu, has landed in Hangzhou, at the China Design Museum of China Academy of Art. The exhibition is part of the programme of cultural diplomacy activities organised by the Italian consular diplomatic network in China for the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death, and on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Italy-China partnership and the celebration of 55 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. For the occasion, the exhibition, which includes loans from Italian museums such as the Galleria Nazionale di Arte Moderna, the Musei Civici in Venice, the Musei Civici in Bologna, the Poldi Pezzoli in Milan and the Stibbert in Florence, has been enriched by a contemporary section of Italian drawings on the Far East curated by the Fondazione Garuzzo in Turin.
The section, 'Le divisament dou Monde: Italian drawings on the Far East' presents contemporary Italian artists, both acknowledged masters and young talents, many of whom are present in the Farnesina Collection, with works inspired by the figure of Marco Polo and the theme of travel, executed on paper, a material that unites the Italian and Chinese artistic traditions. In addition, the last section of the exhibition offers an immersive augmented reality experience that allows visitors to relive the history of cultural exchanges between Italy and China from the 13th century onwards, delving into the variety and depth of the ties between the two countries. The inauguration of the exhibition, promoted and organised by the Italian Embassy in China, the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai with the coordination of the Treccani Encyclopaedia, and which will close on 31 July, was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to China, Massimo Ambrosetti.
