The experience of 20 students from Qatar University at the 'Mater Olbia' Hospital, a healthcare centre of excellence in Sardinia resulting from the successful collaboration between Qatar Foundation Endowment and Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli, has come to a successful end.
The students, enrolled in degree courses in medicine, physiotherapy, and biotechnology," reads a note, "carried out a curricular internship in addition to seminar activities and shadowing medical staff, led by scientific director Prof. Giovanni Delogu, who praised their perseverance, critical thinking, and interest in the lessons. The experience is not an isolated case, but is part of a process aimed at increasingly strengthening the collaboration between the Sardinian hospital and Qatar's health and academic institutions, also thanks to Doha's direct involvement in the financing and management of the structure, through the Qatar Foundation Endowment.
This perspective was also shared by Prof. Asmaa Al Thani, Vice President for Health Sciences at Qatar University, who commented how 'this international experience promotes a global perspective in our academic paths. The students have acquired remarkable skills that will boost their careers in the health sector and enhance their ability to deal with different diagnostic and treatment protocols." "The presence of Qatari students at Mater Olbia Hospital is a sign of the strategic value that the two countries attach to collaboration in the healthcare field," said the Ambassador of Italy to Qatar, Paolo Toschi. "This is a sector that Qatar looks at with a holistic approach, ranging from investment to research, from training to the virtuous circle with tourism, and in which there are many promising opportunities for collaboration with Italy, to the benefit of our territories as in the case of the Sardinia Region," he concluded.
