The diplomatic advisor to the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and coordinator of the Mattei Plan, Fabrizio Saggio, discussed today in Algiers with the Minister of Agriculture, Youcef Charfa, the progress and potential 'extension' of the agro-industrial project launched by the Italian Bf group. This was reported in a note from the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture.
The meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters, was also attended by the Italian ambassador in Algiers, Alberto Cutillo, and the deputy coordinator for the implementation of the Mattei Plan, as well as representatives of the Algerian ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Higher Education, and the National Council for Scientific Research and Technology.
During the talks, they took stock of the progress of the integrated project for the production of cereals, pulses and pasta started in Timimoune over an area of 36,000 hectares, as part of the partnership between Algeria and the Italian Bf group, officially active from the 2024-2025 agricultural season.
The production of wheat and dried pulses in the Italian agricultural group's project in the Algerian desert is destined exclusively for the domestic market of the North African country. The two parties, the note further informs, also assessed the state of implementation of the 'Enrico Mattei' regional centre for agricultural training, research and innovation planned in Sidi Bel Abbès, in western Algeria.
