The Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, together with the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Carlo Colonnella, visited the Ukrainian capital's seat of the University of Mariupol, which moved to Kiev after the Russian occupation of Donetsk, and handed over a donation of books and teaching materials for the occasion, provided through the Farnesina Funding Programme for Foreign University Institutions for the Promotion of Italian Language and Culture. The Italian Cultural Institute also donated several volumes of classic Italian literature.
Welcomed by Rector Mykola Trofymenko, the Ambassador presented books by Italian authors in the original language and in Ukrainian translation that will enrich the university's library collection. "These volumes will be a valuable resource, a bridge for all students to get even closer to the Italian language and culture," said Formosa, also recalling how a graduate of the university is now serving at the Italian Embassy. "Your University is a symbol of the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people and continues to operate despite Mariupol falling under Russian occupation. Today, we demonstrate Italian support also in the field of culture, education and university training, which are important tools for overcoming the challenges Ukraine faces today."
