The Italian Embassy in South Korea organised the fourth edition of 'Ambassador for a Day' in Seoul, an initiative designed to promote gender equality and female leadership. In conjunction with the Day of Italian Research in the World. The protagonist of the initiative, which highlighted the role of women in the Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sectors, was Min-yeong Ko, a graduate student in Chemical Engineering at Dongguk University, selected through a competition among Korean university students, thanks to an essay dedicated to the figure of the scientist and Nobel Prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini, on the 116th anniversary of her birth.
Min-yeong Ko joined Ambassador Emilia Gatto for a day, participating in her institutional activities. The programme included a meeting with representatives of Sistema Italia, a visit to High Street Italia, an Ice showroom dedicated to the promotion of Made in Italy, and participation in the Annual Policy Session on Disaster Management organised by the Korean Ministry of the Interior.
The day ended with a videoconference with the Director of Infn, Paola Gianotti, followed by a networking event with Italian and Korean researchers at the Ambassador's Residence. On this occasion, the Association of Italian Researchers in Korea was officially founded, which will work in collaboration with the Embassy to strengthen scientific cooperation between Italy and South Korea, acting as a bridge between universities, research centres and technology companies.
