President Sergio Mattarella said on
the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine Monday
that Italy was "close" to Kyiv "three years after the brutal
aggression" by Moscow.
"Three years after the brutal aggression of Ukraine by the
Russian Federation, we must reiterate our closeness and
solidarity with the courageous Ukrainian resistance in defense
of its independence and the freedom of its national choices," he
said.
"The violation of the most basic norms of international
coexistence, also breaking solemn commitments made in 1994
between the two parties, the hundreds of thousands of victims,
including among the civilian population, the deliberately
pursued devastation of Ukrainian infrastructures, call, together
with a severe condemnation, for the search for a rapid start of
talks so that the two parties can reach the definition of a just
peace, in line with UN principles, guaranteed by effective
security measures that make it effective and definitive".
