Italy has seven representatives in the
men's tennis singles top 50 after Sunday's victories by Flavio
Cobolli and Luciano Darderi in the finals of the ATP 250
tournaments in Bucharest and Marrakech respectively.
Cobolli climbed nine places to 36th and Darderi rose up nine
slots too to enter the top 50 at 48th.
Italy's Jannik Sinner has remained at the top of the ranking for
the 44th week as he continues to serve a three-month ban for
testing positive for a banned substance.
The 23-year-old had initially been cleared of doping after it
was found that he had inadvertently been tainted with the banned
steroid by a trainer's massage at the Indian Wells tournament
last March, but WADA reopened the case and appealed to the Court
of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), so Sinner agreed to accept a
short ban to close the case.
The suspension runs until May 4.
The other Italians in the top 50 are Lorenzo Musetti (16),
Matteo Berrettini (34), Matteo Arnaldi (40) and Lorenzo Sonego
(41).
