European Trade Commissioner
Maros Sefcovic on Monday thanked Italian Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani for stressing the need for EU unity as the bloc
plans its response to US President Donald Trump's tariffs at a
European Trade Council meeting.
Sefcovic expressed gratitude to "the position of Italy and our
friend Antonio Tajani, who perfectly understood the spirit of
this negotiation," according to sources.
"We have to discuss our positions and our demands among
ourselves, but, when faced with our American counterparts, we
have to be very united," Sefcovic said. "Thank you Antonio".
The Commissioner also thanked Italy for supporting an approach
that is "firm but open to the dialogue proposed by the
Commission" and for "proposing a strategic objective: to have
zero tariffs between America and Europe".
