The Italian wine union said Monday
that US whiskey would not be hit by EU countertariffs after
President Donald Trump's tariffs
Whiskey is out of the list of countertariffs foreseen by the
European Union, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, told the
President of the Italian Wine Union (UIV), Lamberto Frescobaldi,
at Vinitaly, the latter said.
"I would also like to thank the Minister on behalf of the
Italian Wine Union for having accepted and successfully
completed a request of fundamental importance for our sector",
underlined President Frescobaldi.
The additional tariffs on American spirits were initially
announced by the European Union and frozen after Trump
threatened retaliation with 200% tariffs.
