The two-day visit to Oman by the Director General of Grande Brera, Angelo Crespi, ends today. Accompanied by the Italian Ambassador in Mascate, Pierluigi D'Elia, Crespi visited the National Museum of Oman and met with the Secretary General, Jamal Al Moosawi, to pursue a cooperation project between the two prestigious museums launched during a recent visit to Milan by Al Moosawi. The Grande Brera delegation also held a series of meetings at some important academic and cultural institutions in Oman. At the 'Scientific College of Design', Deputy Director Chiara Rostagno gave a lecture to Omani students on the restoration of the Da Vinci cenacle as part of the celebrations of the Italian Research Day in Oman, emphasising the importance of research in the context of the conservation of works of art and museum activities.
In front of an audience of over one hundred students, teachers and professionals from the art world, Angelo Crespi presented, at the opening of the event, the Grande Brera cultural system, which links three extraordinary institutions of the City of Milan: the Brera Art Gallery, Palazzo Citterio and the Braidense National Library.
In closing, Ambassador D'Elia commented: 'This lecture testifies to the enduring value of Italian research and creativity and the strength of our cultural ties with Oman. Thanks to the collaboration between prestigious cultural and academic institutions, we continue to build meaningful bridges between our nations'.
Finally, there was a visit to the Bait Al Zubair foundation, which hosts the first Italian language centre in Oman run in partnership with Società Dante Alighieri and is one of the most vibrant cultural 'hubs' in the Sultanate, and with which possible lines of collaboration with the Grande Brera system were explored.
