The government aims to boost policies
in favour of the family and raising Italy's chronically falling
birth rate, according to its economic blueprint the Public
Finance Document (DFP), formerly the Economic and Financial
Document (DEF).
The government "will confirm and expand a plurality of policy
instruments that intervene on the factors that affect the choice
of parenthood and the demand for services for early childhood,
in order to support birth rates and families, as well as promote
greater participation of young people and women in the labor
market", said the DFP, the new name of the DEF, which arrived in
parliament Thursday evening, and in which it is estimated that
eliminating the child penalty would lead to an increase in
female employment of 6.5 percentage points by 2040.
