Heavy rain caused a multiple pile-up
on the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia Thursday and the stage
was subsequently 'neutralized' with riders cycling safely and
surely behind the director's car.
The general crash in the center of the group, with several
riders on the ground, caused by the asphalt slippery due to
rain, led to the jury's decision to 'neutralize' the 227km stage
of from Potenza to Naples, this year's longest stage.
Among those involved was Jai Hindley, winner of the Giro in
2022, who appears in shock and withdrew from the race after
boarding an ambulance.
At the time of the stop, Paleni and Van der Hoorn were in a
breakaway with a 50" advantage over the group.
Now instead all riders are proceeding at a controlled pace
behind the management car.
