Premier Giorgia Meloni has had a
telephone conversation with Pope Leo XIV, her office said in a
statement on Thursday.
"Italy appreciates and supports the Holy See's efforts for peace
and the cessation of conflict in all crisis scenarios where
weapons have taken the place of discussion and dialogue," the
statement said.
It said that during the conversation Meloni "renewed Italy's
willingness to continue to work, together with the Holy See, for
the ethical, human-serving development of artificial
intelligence.
She said this was "a challenge that was at the heart of the
Italian G7 Presidency and whose centrality - for the defence of
human dignity, justice and work - Pope Leo XIV recalled during
his meeting with the Cardinals on May 10".
