President Sergio Mattarella stressed
the need for social justice and fair wages for peace as he took
part in the ceremony for the opening of the academic year of the
International Training Centre of the UN International Labour
Organization (ITCILO) in Turin on Friday.
"Social justice is essential for peace, stability, progress and
shared prosperity among peoples," the head of State said.
"There can be no lasting peace without fair wages, without
social protection and without respect for trade union freedoms.
"The Italian Constitution clearly outlines a model of society in
which labour is both the foundation of the republic, an
instrument of personal fulfilment and leverage, of social
justice".
