The maritime connection between
Trieste, Slovenia, and Croatia will resume on June 26 and
continue until September 1. The Friuli Venezia Giulia region
(Fvg) signed a contract today with the shipping company Liberty
Lines, which will manage the international routes between
Trieste and the coastal towns of Piran, Poreč, Rovinj, and Mali
Lošinj for the period from 2025 to 2027.
The Region announced that the service, which had been
suspended last year, will operate daily except on Tuesdays, with
departures and arrivals at Pier IV in Trieste. The planned
itineraries will connect Trieste with Piran, Poreč, Rovinj, and
Mali Lošinj in various combinations, offering round-trip travel
options between these destinations.
According to the region, each trip will accommodate up to 200
passengers and 15 bicycles. Discounted fares will be available
for groups, families, seniors over 65, young travelers, and
individuals with disabilities. A financial contribution of €4.5
million from the region enables these discounts.
"This service - said Regional Infrastructure Councillor
Cristina Amirante - represents an opportunity to strengthen the
tourist appeal of Trieste and the surrounding region while
encouraging sustainable mobility by providing a practical
alternative to car travel."
"After a year-long pause, Liberty Lines is once again
investing in this alternative form of transportation for the
many travelers ready to consider options beyond land-based
travel," said Nunzio Formica, Commercial Director of Liberty
Lines. "We believe both residents and tourists will warmly
welcome our fast maritime transport services, as it has been in
the past."
