In Slovenia, the law on
supplementary pensions for extraordinary artistic merits, which
was approved by Parliament in January, was rejected on Sunday in
a referendum called by the conservative opposition.
Approximately 26% of the electorate, or just under 440,000
people, voted. Over 92% of voters, or more than 403 thousand
votes, opposed the law, exceeding the required quorum by about
100 thousand units. According to the most recent National
Election Commission data, slightly more than 32,000 people voted
to keep the law, with 3,000 ballots declared invalid. The main
opposition party, the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS,
conservative), proposed the referendum initiative after framing
the brief election campaign as a referendum on Robert Golob's
government.
