Projects such as the reactivation
of passenger and freight rail connections between Trieste and
Belgrade via Slovenia and Croatia "allow us to translate the
mission of CEI into concrete actions," because "supporting
connectivity means supporting rapprochement with the EU and
shared development," according to Franco Dal Mas, Secretary
General of the Central European Initiative (CEI).
Dal Mas spoke at today's follow-up meeting on the study to
reactivate rail connections along the
Trieste-Ljubljana-Zagreb-Belgrade route, which is being promoted
by CEI and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
The project in question, which was also mentioned by Foreign
Minister Tajani at a business forum in Zagreb on May 6,
"involves EU and non-EU countries and represents an example of
the CEI's long-term mission of overcoming barriers in order to
develop cooperation and integration in Europe," Dal Mas
continued. "Infrastructures, emphasised the CEI Secretary
General, are not only used to move goods or people, but also to
create connections between communities and foster dialogue,"
which is why "transport remains our priority."
